Hello my Zebras and Spoonies! Thanks for coming and hanging out with me today, I’m glad you’re here!
This past week has been a pretty rough one for me and thus I have spent all my spare time resting, in the hopes of washing a few spoons. Luckily work was pretty tame this week so that made my life a little easier. But I have been sick. Again. I have strep throat. Apparently the upper respiratory infection that I got last month wasn’t good enough to meet my annual respiratory infection quota.
So, I’ve been having a lot of throat pain, a cough, nasal congestion, fatigue and general body aches. Great times. To treat this infection, I was prescribed penicillin and probiotics. That has led my guts into a great deal of unhappiness. Like the rest of me, my guts can’t respond to things in the expected ways. I’ve been constipated since I started the antibiotic. This happens every time I take penicillin even though it is suppose to cause the opposite. Being constipated is very uncomfortable.
The other thing that I have been getting to enjoy this week is a migraine. I’m not surprised that the disrupted sleep schedule and infection has lead to a flare. That’s a pretty common problem. Getting sick usually brings a flare of something along with it. This time, the flare was a migraine that lasted four days. My migraine medications didn’t really stop the symptoms but they did bring the pain down to a level that I could function while I was at work.
I am on day five of a ten day antibiotic course and a fifteen day probiotic course. Thus, I am likely to be getting feeling better soon in some ways, but in others I likely have a while of not feeling great left to go. Not sure it matters if you have the kind of respiratory infection that gets antibiotics or not. The last one I had lasted about three weeks, but I didn’t have to deal with all the symptoms that the medication is causing. So, is one week less of the infection really worth the extra symptoms? Sometimes it can be hard to tell. The reality is that strep infections can get nasty really quickly if left untreated so yeah, it’s worth the antibiotics. Even though it doesn’t always feel like it is, it is worth it.
Well, that’s how my week has been going. Hopefully, your week has been going better than that! Until next time, stay well.
