Unsustainable Healthcare

Hello my Zebras and Spoonies! Thanks for coming and visiting with me today, I am glad that you are here. Today, I want to talk about why our nurses are leaving and why we can’t attract new nurses into the field.

There have been problems plaguing the healthcare system for the entire twenty years that I have been working as a nurse and for the years that I worked as a CNA before that. Covid has made many of those problems worse, but none of them are new. But we are reaching the point where changes have to be made soon or things are going to start falling apart. One of the biggest problems that our healthcare system faces is that we don’t have enough nurses. If we don’t address this problem soon there simply will be no one available to take care of the sick, injured and dying in this country.

What needs to happen in order to retain the nurses that we have and recruit new nurses? We need better incentives to work in the healthcare setting. The work environment in healthcare right now in beyond toxic. The environment is unsafe. The staff working in healthcare are not properly supported or care for.

Update 012322

Hello my Zebras and Spoonies! Thanks for coming and visiting with me today. I’m glad that you’re here.

Just wanted to check in today and talk about how things have been going with my life. I am recovering from an upper respiratory infection and am in the middle of an interstitial cystitis (IC) flare. So, I have been feeling less than awesome as of late with the expectation that my bladder will continue to feel angry for a while yet. Because I have not been feeling well, my sleep has been more unstable which just makes things more difficult for me. This has also greatly effected my diet which also has a major impact on how I am feeling.

Recording Doctor Appointments

Hello my Zebras and Spoonies! Thanks for visiting and hanging out with me today, I’m glad that you are here.

Today I want to talk about patients recording their doctor appointments. With about everyone having a smart phone these days, it is pretty easy to take photos, videos and audio recordings of about everything in our lives. Many have started including their doctor appointments in the list of things to record. There is a lot to this topic, but let’s start with the the legal stuff.

Update 121521

Hello my Zebras and Spoonies! Thanks for coming and hanging out with me today. I’m glad that you’re here.

I’m sure that you’ve noticed that the past week there has been an lack of posting on all my online locations. I simply have not had the spoons. I’ve decided to write an update today to explain the reason for the lacking of spoons and then I’m going to try to get some things into the cue for my various sites so that there will be fewer crickets.

The Cost of Covid

Hello, today I want to talk about a difficult topic for me, and one that is political. I want to talk about COVID. I want to talk about some of the effects that it’s been having on my life personally, the effects that it’s having on our medical system, and the consequences that the nurses and other health care staff are dealing with because of individual choices that are being made.

Mandatory Covid Vaccination

Mandatory vaccination for a small portion of the population (regardless of which portion) will not achieve herd immunity and thus will not achieve the effect of protecting the public while it is infringing in medical autonomy; something that healthcare professionals do not acquiesce as part of our profession. If mandatory vaccination is required for public safety then why is it not being mandated for all people? A grocery clerk is a higher vector (an organism that transmits a disease or parasite from one animal to another) risk then myself given the number of customers they serve in a day compared to the 5 patients I have in a shift. Yet, the clerk is not mandated. Why is that? Either mandate the vaccine for everyone because it’s that important or don’t mandate it at all because this selection of a small group achieves little.
