090922 Update

Hello my Zebras and Spoonies! Thanks for coming and hanging out with me today, I’m glad that you are here. So, I am now in Albany, New York. It’s busy around here! And seriously, people need to drive better. I think something happens to people’s brains when they are driving that prevents them from recalling that they are controlling a machine capable of completely ending them. Give it respect. Please.

I have completed the first week of my new contract and things are going pretty well. I have never been a fan of the orientation process, so no surprise that I wasn’t excited about the process here either. But now that the orientation requirements are done I can focus on actually learning how to do this job and getting some work done.

Good to be back on the night shift. Was on day shift while I was looking into the remote work options and I can’t say that I have ever been a huge fan of the whole day shift scene. Going to bed at midnight and getting up at 0800 is as close as I can tolerate to day shift and that is less than my ideal. But I can be functional on that schedule. But this whole getting up before the sun is just insanity that my brain and body fully rejects.

The down side is that I am now feeling as though someone has stuffed me into a sack and beat me with a large stick. There isn’t much of me that isn’t aching right now. At least there isn’t any where as much lifting for me to do with this job as previous jobs that I have worked. They actually have adequate support staff at this hospital and I have a lot of help for the lifting. I cannot express how grateful I am for this unexpected boon. Support staff are not given enough credit for how important they are and how much of a difference they make in my ability to do my job well. So, here is a shout out to all the PCAs, CNAs, Med Techs, RAs, Unit Secretaries and what ever other labels jobs have given to these amazing people that help us nurses do our jobs.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE SUPPORT STAFF!

I worked 12 hours last night and have only slept 1 hour since getting out of my shift. Blarg. I really hate having insomnia. Having pain just makes it harder, but the reality is that it is the ADHD that is keeping me from sleeping today. My brain just won’t slow down low enough to sleep.

So, I am feeling like a vegetable today.

I AM BROCOLI.

Well, that’s about it for my rambling today. Thanks for coming and spending some time with me. If you like what you read, click on that like button. It really does help! Until we talk again, you take care of yourselves!
